Current Projects
Pulmonary Lung Function testing system
This monitoring equipment will be based in the Respiratory unit in Allen Ward. It tests and analyses exhaled nitric oxide and airways inflammation, and will be vital in the diagnosis and treatment of children who suffer from asthma from new born right up to 14 years of age. Asthma is the most common chronic illness in the UK and will affect 1 in 4 children in Northern Ireland.
Multi Sensory Play area
We are currently funding the purchase of the latest fibre optic wall, ceiling and floor coverings along with specialist equipment to help with the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of children with head injuries.
Educational DVD
We are currently planning the production of a DVD which will highlight the facilities of the hospital and can be used both as a teaching aid and a bridge between the RBHSC, patients and their families.
The DVD will help explain what the hospital does as well as introduce the patients and their families to key people within the 'children's'. It will show them areas like wards, theatres, and other relevant parts of the hospital which will help to minimise the inevitable anxiety.
The DVD will also highlight the various clinical aspects unique to the RBHSC in terms of the Northern Ireland region and will explain some key procedures. This aspect has an important educational dimension. It will be used as a teaching aid and will allow the hospital's progress in this area of 21st century communications to dovetail with it's pioneering work in the clinical areas.
